GOODWEATHER

REPORTS

~ Welcome, !

Here's the first newsletter and the next four will follow almost at once, to bring you up to speed on the ongoing conversation I have with my readers (and they with each other). No pictures in this one but lots in the next ones.

Vicki

Note! When I send the next newsletter, around the first of next month, it will be a bulk mailing. If your computer routes such mailings to a bulk mail folder, you may want to look for it there and set your program to accept mailings from The Goodweather Report.

I – July 2007

Welcome to my very first newsletter, cleverly timed to coincide with the release of Old Wounds , book 3 of the Elizabeth Goodweather Appalachian Mysteries. I was shamed into doing this by the eager-beavers at Bantam Dell and have no idea if anyone out there has the least interest in my ruminations. But, onward and upward.

I already have a blog, which you can find on my website www.vickilanemysteries.com , and there I ramble on, maybe once a month, about anything that catches my fancy—sometimes on matters having to do with the novels or my alleged writing career, sometimes not.

How will the newsletter differ from the blog? Good question. I suppose it will be more like . . . news. What's happening with me and with the books. Possibly comments of current interest on this, that, and sometimes the other. I expect the newsletter will be a tad more personal than the blog. As I see it, the blog is for anyone who stumbles onto it while rambling around Amazon's site. The newsletter, on the other hand, goes to people who have asked for it.

And speaking of news – Old Wounds has been selected as a Book Sense Notable for August. Many thanks to the Independent Booksellers who have been supporters of Elizabeth from the start!

I'm excited about this third book. It's a great feeling to be a repeat offender – seven years ago I wouldn't have believed that I could actually complete one novel, much less five. I'm counting book four, not quite finished but definitely on the home stretch, as well as my very first Elizabeth Goodweather story – the one that got me an agent but never found a publisher. Elizabeth has grown a lot since that first effort. I haven't looked at it in several years but as I recall she used to be rather silly. Or should I say sillier? Back then I wasn't sure what exactly I was writing – there's more than a hint of cozy and romantic suspense and gothic, (not to mention the old evil twin thing), in my maiden effort called Whose Revenge? (Not available anywhere.)

What else am I doing these days? Trying to keep up with the weeds in the garden and with the dog and cat hair that is rolling like tumble weeds through the house -- all six dogs and both cats are shedding – and trying to finish IN A DARK SEASON, book four of the EG Mysteries. I've just spent several days proof-reading the first three-quarters of the book and making notes of loose ends that need tying up. I go through stages of being pretty sure that the book (as my friend and fellow Bantam Dell author John Ramsey Miller says) is so bad it could suck the bark off a young oak. But on this re-reading I was pleasantly surprised – it's better than I thought and I'm eager to finish so I can see how it comes out.

So, you tell me. What would you like to know about Elizabeth Goodweather or her creator that hasn't already been covered on my website? What do you expect from a newsletter? How often would you like to hear from me

Help me out, friends! All suggestions gratefully received and considered. Contact me at vicki_lane@mtnarea.net
